Terms of service

Short, and written to be read. If a clause here seems unfair, tell us. We would rather fix the terms than rely on them.

The agreement

These terms are between you and Quillow Labs, Inc., a Delaware corporation. By making an account you accept them. If you are using Quillow for a child, you confirm you are their parent or guardian, or that you have permission from one.

What we provide

Quillow writes and illustrates personalized storybooks. The free tier includes one short illustrated book per account. Storyteller is a monthly or annual subscription that includes unlimited digital books and longer stories. Hardcover printing is a separate one-time charge per book.

Books are generated by language and image models. Output varies, and occasionally a page will need to be painted again. Re-painting a page is included on every plan.

Who owns the books

You own the books you make. We claim no ownership of the story text or illustrations produced for you, and you may read them, print them, and give them away, including the free book.

We ask one thing: do not resell Quillow books as a product of your own, and do not use the service to produce material for commercial republication without asking us first.

We keep the right to use the house style and the software itself, which are ours.

Acceptable use

Quillow is for gentle books for children. Story ideas are checked before writing and we refuse anything violent, cruel, sexual, hateful, frightening, or otherwise unsuitable for a small child.

  • Do not attempt to produce content involving real named people other than the child the book is for.
  • Do not attempt to bypass the content checks, including by splitting an idea across several attempts.
  • Do not use the service to produce material that would harm a child, in any sense of that word.
  • Do not scrape, resell, or automate access to the service without written permission.

Payment and cancellation

Prices are in US dollars. Storyteller is billed monthly or annually in advance and cancels from the billing page at any time, effective at once, with your books remaining readable afterwards. We do not pro-rate the remainder of a period, and we do refund it if you ask and it was days rather than months.

Hardcover orders are charged per book. Before printing we confirm the proof with you. Once a book has gone to print we cannot cancel it, but if it arrives damaged or wrong we replace it.

Availability

We aim to keep Quillow available and we publish a live status page. We do not promise uninterrupted service, and model providers occasionally have outages that we cannot fix from here. When something is down, the status page says so plainly.

Liability

Quillow is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Ending the agreement

You can delete your account at any time from the Your data page, which removes everything at once. We may suspend an account that breaks the acceptable use rules, and we will tell you why in a message written by a person.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, and the courts of Delaware have jurisdiction, without affecting any rights you have under the law where you live.

Questions about these terms are answered by a person. Write to privacy@getquillow.com, or post to Quillow Labs, Inc., 1219 SW Alder Street, Suite 300, Portland, OR 97205.
